Here we go again! 4:00 PM and near Bolivar there are slideoffs all over the place. It sounds like this could be a nasty weekend. The last winter storm in December made for some great monitoring of snowplows, utility companies , and the usual public safety agencies.
So, if you guys hear anything interesting related to this round of weather, could you please share it ? Thanks!

9:00PM This is really getting to be something. Every fire department I can hear is dealing with multiple power lines down and catching trees on fire. Power is out 3 miles from me and I will be surprised if our power is still on in the morning. Not hardly any accidents, though, everyone must be home. Hope all you other Missouri guys are doing OK!

Sounds like you all are getting it worse than we are down here in OK. I'm stuck at work tonight so haven't heard any news but there hasn't been any talk of power outages on the Tulsa talkgroups. We have some sleet and ice on the roads and they're slick and hazardous. Hopefully I can get out of here in a couple of hours and make it home safe and sound. Good luck up there!

I don't know, but my nephew works for a tree service here in Missouri. They told to pack, and be ready to go to Oklahoma Saturday morning.

I haven't ventured outside yet this morning, but it looks like a 1/2 inch of ice on things this morning. Last night I stood out on the front porch for a few minutes and heard what sounded like rifle shots and realized it was tree limbs falling. It was amazing, every few seconds there was another, and it went on and on and on. The damage must be unreal. Last night I heard the Emergency Mangement Administration talkgroup in Greene county discussing preparations for declaring the area a local disaster area, and sure enough, this morning it is official.
60,000 to 70,000 in Springfield are without power, but I've been lucky so far. It's not over yet....
How are you guys doing?

my house in Republic has been without power since about 9:00pm last night. been listening to springfield as well as Christan County units and its pretty bad. If i heard it right last night, sounded like the new power plant in Springfield lost its main transmission lines.
Just like everyone else, lines down, trees down, power outages all across the board.
and City Utilities are just trying to keep up.

BTW, has anyone else been able to get a good signal on the NWS NOAA Weather radio in springfield. i cant seem to get a good signal and at times no signal at all. or is it just down cause of all the ice.

Most of Republic now has power. it was a busy night last night for those of you listening to Springfield City Utilities. had two seperate lines that broke less that a block from a house that i was staying at, they was catching the trees on fire. Brookline was called out to a fire near Republic Rd and FF.

Not sure which one you're reffering too..
I can't get WXL46 from home (162.4 SGF/Fordland)

I'm in reference to 162.400MHZ.
since about Christmas have been able to pick up Springfield (162.400MHZ) or the Branson area (162.550mhz)

Hey guys, how is everyone holding up? So many people still with no electricity and more snow forecast for this weekend. The scanner has been valuable for keeping up with things as they happen. Fires, carbon monoxide poisonings, even heard them chasing around scammers who are trying to take advantage of people.I don't know about you , but I'm not going to complain as much about the heat come summertime this year. At least the bug population should be down, right?

The National Guard has quite a few troops around here doing door-to-door checks. Does anyone know any frequencies they might be using?

It was pretty active Sat, Sun here too.

I think I can manage with the snow lets hope the Freezing Drizzle will stay at a minimum, and not knock power out again.

We were without power from Sat 4am to Tuesday night 10pm. (In Ballwin - a suburb of STL). Got veryy cold in the house, resorted to staying with local family on Monday night (worried the little ones would get too cold).

Scanned pretty much the whole weekend, trying like crazy to catch the local Ameren guys in the area. Caught them turning on areas all around us, but nothing sounded like anything close to my house :(

Hopefully the snow we are getting now doesn't down any more lines. My street is all above ground power, and we are a 40 year old subdivision with big trees, so we lose it easily.

A friend of mine works for Southwest Electric. He has asked me in the past if I listen to them on the scanner and I told him no , they were boring, which he thought was pretty funny. When our power was off, they weren't boring at all ! It is so cool to hear them say something like "I'm going to try the east lead now", and then everything in the house comes back on.
