New to the group and to scanning. Our area (north of Kingsville) has endured a rash of vandalism recently and I just purchased a Uniden BC92XLT to listen to the Sheriff's department as they have been in the area quite a bit since the punks started this stuff. I have used this site to find the needed frequencies and entered all that was listed for our county. However, I have noticed that I cannot pick up the responses to the dispatch. I hear the dispatcher and his/her response, but nothing from the sheriff. Am I missing something? It sort of defeats my purpose wanting to hear what they are saying looking for these guys. Hoping to find out what I may be doing wrong or find a frequency that could help me out. As mentioned, I have entered all that were listed within the Johnson County page on this site.

Thanks and look forward to replies,
Dan

I think they are simplex and the responses are from the relatively low powered mobiles directly with no repeater involved. I hear the same thing as our dispatch is on the same frequency and when the conditions are good their dispatch comes booming in here.

Jackson county has the same problem. If I have good reception I can pick up the deputies but if not, dispatch is all you're going to hear.

 Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a repeater?

I'm confused.

What kind of antenna are you using? With a good outdoor antenna @ 20 feet I have had good results hearing both sides of the SO on 155.055 (67.0) from Knob Noster. I have poor results hearing them while mobile or on my handhelds.

Give 158.925 (67.0) a try. I havent really checked it closely but my notes indicate it repeats the cars from the Holden area. Its audible along 50 Hwy north of Holden so it should be heard in Kingsville as well. I cannot hear it in Knob Noster so I can't confirm its exact use.

If there is a deputy in your neighborhood you should still be able to hear them on 155.055.

Tac / Car Car is 154.830 (67.0).

I guess it would huh?

:D
don't know why they would. I know every now and then Dispatch or one (Officer) would ask another Officer to go through the repeater.

Thanks for all the replies. All I have is the basic handheld Uniden BC92XLT with a factory antenna. I am able to pick up a great deal with it, can hear Odessa, Lexington & Higginsville quite well down here, but haven't heard Holden or any replies from the Sheriff cars on the road. As I get more into it, I may consider purchasing a different model, but going to stick with what I have for now.

Thanks again!!

If I remember correctly, it's pretty much for the SO to be able to get a signal out of their office.... they are down in a hole in St Robert... so RF getting out is an issue...

UHF Link Frequencies for Johnson County Missouri

The dispatchers monitor the field units from antennas located on a 400' tower at the north edge of Warrensburg. If you are able to hear the UHF link frequencies from the tower to the dispatch center in Warrensburg, you will hear the law enforcement and fire units in the field.

Try monitoring 454.625 for the law enforcement link back to dispatch, and try listening for 459.625 for the fire link back to the dispatch center.

If you can received these signals, you will hear the vehicles and units you are wanting to hear. These signals can be heard in Sedalia, 30 miles to the east. However, they aren't strong enough to make their way to Windsor, about 25 miles to the south/southeast.

The law enforcment (except for Warrensburg PD which has its only tower, repeater and frequencies) channel and the fire channel transmitted signals originated from a tower next to the sheriff's office in Warrensburg.

I hope this is helpful.
