I'm out of state but very curious by the title. How'd a traffic stop of a Sheriff get to the point of arrest for drug possession? Seems like a targeted stop. I'm trying to figure out how the top law enforcement official of a county would be subjected to scrutiny during a "routine" traffic stop

Sometimes an odor or erratic driving but who knows as the type of drugs were not mentioned in the article. From the videos I’ve seen of ASP, those guys don’t mess around. They arrested another county sheriff for DUI.

Yea it must have been something good. I would have thought DUI too. I'm just thinking of a dozen different ways a Sheriff could explain possession of drug being their profession deals with those substances often. or they found it in his wallet or something ha. Yea those ASP guys must be on another level. I can't imagine a lot of scrutiny of a Sheriff. He must have been caught with the pipe still burning

He also may have mouthed off to the troopers. If he tried to pull rank or tell them they were wrong, well, that's a sure way NOT to get the preferred treatment. I remember back in the 70s when a sheriff in an adjacent county used to come to town to do his drinking on weekends. If he was stopped on the way home, someone would call one of his deputies to come get him. The one time he got angry at being stopped and reminded the officer he was a sheriff and couldn't be stopped even in his private car was the one time he was taken to jail.
