Hi Guys:

My apologies in advance if there is already a thread for this. I'm running a multi-scanner shack (RR Feeds) using an 8-way splitter and want to replace the current set of cables I'm using between the scanners and the splitter. The ones I have now are a mish-mosh of different lengths & types. While reception and sound appear to be "OK" right now, I'm sure a set of good quality jumper cables (same type & length) would likely improve my shack's performance.

I'm interested in any recommendations you may have for cable type, cable length (scanners are located adjacent to the splitter), connectors etc. along with any good sources that make jumpers to order. The splitter has F inputs.

Thanks very much!
Mike

If you are dead set on changing your jumpers get some quality rg6 or 59 and some snap n seal connectors for both ends. They make a bnc snap n seal and there is the standard f snap n seal. You will need the correct tools. Gilbert and digicon also make quality connectors but the tools are a bit more expensive. With the gilbert bnc connectors you must use the correct tool otherwise you will damage the connector. All of those connectors mentioned can be found on ebay.

Thanks for the reply KZ9G. I would like to change out all of the jumpers and replace with a consistent set of new cables. I'd also rather have a cable vendor or other source do the work for me, as I'm just not handy enough to put them together myself. If you or any other members know of any vendors that put the jumpers and connectors together, that would be great.

I also have a shelf that has several scanners and recievers and I use a single antenna with a splitter like you describe.

At one time I also thought that I could improve the signal level to each device by changing the cables.

I also found that the splitter was the biggest problem as it caused a large signal degrade at each port.

Install a 10 to 15db 0-1gig tv type amp between the antenna and the splitter and you will find that the signal level will almost double to each device.

As for cables, I use a company in San Diego that will build you a custom cable with any fitting with any type cable and they are very good and have been around a long time.

The cables I use are 2 to 3 feet long and are RG142 with "F" fittings on one end and BNC, SMA, UHF connecters on the other.

Short runs of RG 142 have a super low loss and by adding the amp, it will cancel the loss from the splitter

The place I use is rfcables.com
