Beats record set in June, 2005

Denver International Airport recorded its busiest month ever in June with a total of 4,394,473travelers. The previous busiest month was July 2005, when 4,275,728 passengers used DIA.
The June total was 323,186, or 7.9 percent, more than the 4,071,287 passengers recorded at DIA in the same month last year. June was the 14th straight month in which the airport set a monthly passenger record.
Through the first six months of the year, passenger traffic at DIA totaled 23,446,319. That was 2,339,622 travelers more than the 21,106,697 who used the airport during the first half of 2005, a year-to-date increase of 11.1 percent.
The six-month total also indicated DIA will set another traffic record in 2006, surpassing the previous record of 43,387,513 passengers set in 2005.
“These numbers show that more competition and more choice contribute to an increase in travel,” Manager of Aviation Turner West said Monday. “This robust passenger activity is good for the airlines, the airport, the community and, above all, the consumer.”
Flight operations rose 7.7 percent in June to 53,588. Through the first half of the year, DIA reported a total of 296,387 flight operations, an increase of 6.7 percent over the same period of 2005.
