I know you're probably looking for a region-specific answer & sorry I can't give it to you, but...monitor whatever best interests you. The best part of owning any kind of radio receiver is to tune around the bands and discover new things to listen to. That's what makes this hobby so amazing, there's a world of things to pick up, no monthly subscriptions needed. But I digress, hope someone can give you a more relevant answer than mine :)

I'd check 'em all. For instance, I have no desire to listen to restaurant drive-in radios but others find it fascinating. There are utilities, taxis, aircraft, etc. You also have Ft. Rucker with lots of air traffic. Sample all that you can and you might be surprised.

Ft Rucker LMR system would be worth a shot, the MP’s and Fire may be encrypted but the maintenance side of it and a bunch of other talk groups aren’t. Also for any helo traffic search the VHF Lo band (30-70 MHz), UHF mil range (225-380MHz). Not to mention if you have an outside antenna you may bring in comms from the Rose Hill MOA (288.3) and others. The search button is your friend.

I don't think it matters. Dothan is over a hundred miles from Montgomery. As good as the 436 is, it has it's limitations and a hundred miles is pretty much out of the question.
