Just getting back pro197

My kid stupidly burned my pro197 box not realizing the update cable was inside. I just bought a new cable from ebay. I have the cable installed and installed the drivers. All is functioning properly. I downloaded win 500 as it is the software I remember and have used before. Now do I need to resubscribe here to get lists to program it? It's been a long time since I have used this scanner as my kid did a factory reset on it or something and it's been unusable since.

My wife said use it or lose it, so I have the new cable. I'm in washington county minnesota, just trying to find a list to program it with. Also is there any new software for it? like a new eeprom or new flash for it or anything? It's sat in the closet for 3 years.

edit: I just bought 180 days here. I just need to remember how to find the channel lists for my area, I'm kind of lost right now.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, but it keeps telling me it cant find a radioshack programmable cable. Wonder if I bought the wrong one.

Was trying to get butels arc500 and find out if this cable can be used or if it is the wrong one, and their site is worthless download failed 7 times.

That message could be caused by...

a) Some of the third party cables sold on eBay do not work (some do, but not all). The correct Radio Shack cable is the 20-546.

b) The Radio Shack cable comes with a short extension (sometimes called a pig-tail) that converts the cable from stereo to mono. Do not use the extension.

c) You may not have the software set to use the correct com port. You can find the correct com port by looking in the folder where WIN500 is installed there is a file called Win500_COM.exe. Run that program and there will be a new option on the "Configuration" menu called "Find PSR-500/600 Serial Port...". Select this and follow instructions and it will find and set the correct serial port for your scanner.

I finally did get the arc500 software after several tries. And my cable communicates brilliantly with the pro197. So now I know it's not a cable issue.It opens on port 3, anyone know how to change that in win 500?

I'm really getting a gut ache here. It keeps saying it's writing a channel list, but when it reboots nothing is there. What am I doing incorrect?

Thanks but that doesn't help much. I keep writing the channel files, the unit reboots and says nothing enabled wx works fine but nothing else is enabled. Doesn't matter which button I push. I've been reading all night and trying everything, I'm totally stuck right now. frustrating. I programmed this thing before.
I'm worried I'll wreck the scanner if I continue writing stuff to it that doesn't work.

I did atleast have saint croix county working before I tried writing stuff, but now I have nothing.

I push manual and it says ns-0010 TGRP p1D
WA LE NORTH but just sits there and does nothing. The fact it shows WA LE NORTH means something got written but other than that the scanner is froze.

First good reply, so how do I get a scan list. I'm lost. I think I used channel master last time. It just says nothing enabled no matter what I try.

I paid over $300 for this radio.

Once I know it actually works, I'll put in the effort needed to get exactly what I want out of it. Because the old lady said throw it out in the trash.

"Nothing to scan"

This usually means that nothing is enabled (everything locked out).

For conventional frequencies, you lock out the frequency

For trunked systems, you can lock out
1- System
2- Site
3- Site frequency
4-Talkgroup

Since you can manually step to a talk group, that implies that it was loaded. Verify that it is not locked out, then check the sites, frequencies and systems. The software should allow you to see the lockouts
You can have the system enabled, but have either the site(s), site freq(s) or talkgroups locked out, thus "nothing to scan"

I believe in the WIKI is a whole section on helping you with "NOTHING TO SCAN"

I download it, and try and write it, but says nothing enabled every single time.

Ark500 keeps asking my county but loads the entire state, why does it do that?

Nothing to scan

you have to check to see if things are locked out. Either manually at the scanner or in the programming software.

In order to scan a conventional frequency.....

the frequency must be unlocked and in an unlocked group/scan list

In order to scan a trunked system.....

The system must be unlocked, a valid site (radio has to be able to hear it) must be unlocked, with valid system frequencies that are unlocked. Depending on scan mode (open/closed), talkgroups you want to hear must be unlocked.

The scanner is telling you what's wrong,.....

I want the wisconsin channels for st croix county. Then just washington county ones like stillwater PD oak park heights PD bayport PD. I just cannot seem to get them to load. Tried all night long. And have to work at 11 so my time is limited here. I really appreciate the help.
