Alright, I don't know if these questions should either go here, the trunking forum, or the Apco-25 forum. Since it has to do with the Kalamazoo Public Safety frequencies though, I'm putting it here.

First off, has anyone here actually monitored and been able to pick up the department since they switched over to the MPSCS system? I just entered the control channel into my Pro-96 and scan with the open control mode for any active IDs. I didn't hear anything. I went ahead and added all of the frequencies but I'm still not picking anything up. The Apco-25 system is Motorola, right?

I'm not really into entering all of the IDs and such for the different talkgroups at this moment. I just want to be able to pick up any available transmissions that come through and see what I can hear (if anything).

I'm basically asking anyone who monitors the Kalamazoo Public Safety department to point me in the right direction and let me know how I should go about listening. It would also help if you had a Pro-96 scanner and could possibly give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I've read the different areas of the instruction manual as far as entering the trunked frequencies, the digital frequencies, the talkgroup IDs and etc. I'm still clueless about how to start picking up anything on the MPSCS system. Maybe I've done everything correctly and it's just the system that is giving me trouble which it seems to have been doing ever since it was put in here in my city.

Anyways, any and all help is appreciated.

I hear the fire dispatches and some police traffic from the Dimondale tower, so if you are in Kazoo you should at least be hearing that. There are some sample Win96 files on the scan_michigan homepage at http://yahoogroups.com

I'm located in the City of Kzo and most of the traffic appears to be on the Plainwell (310) tower. You will hear the primary talkgroup traffic on the "Kalamazoo" (302) tower but from my experience to this point the bulk of the traffic for the City and Twp is on the Plainwell tower.

Also be aware the Plainwell tower recently changed to a new/alternate control channel so make sure you have the alternates programmed as they appear in the RR database.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Tarantir, if I add the Plainwell tower frequency to my scanner, do I also have to add all the talkgroup IDs that I have assigned to my Kalamazoo control channel to the Plainwell channel bank?

If you add the freq's in one bank, separated by a conventional channel, you do not. If you make a new bank, you do.
