So who in KC (not me, im STL) is listening/watching/at/etc the large chemical fire (explosions)?

it made national (CNN)...pretty impressive

I only listen to the PD but the smoke ploom was a sight! I have a great view of the horizon and could see it from the fire all the way to where it ended. I'd say at least a good 50 miles, at least. To tell you the truth, I was hoping to see those tanker cars go up!!!!!!!!! It was reported that they were full- 33,000 gallons of unknown liquid, more or likely a hazardous chemical.
Interesting thing, the last large explosion in the KC area was just on the other side of the highway at the Bayer plant. Serial arsonist........?? "I am the firestarter, twisted firestarter" - I bet you've never heard that song, I guarantee it!!

Truly an unfortunate statement (attitude?), scanrrman. Those of us who have taken the courses, passed the exams, done the training, and made the runs will most assuredly disagree with your wish for tragedy for purely entertainment purposes.

I used to work with a guy in TN that was blown over 200 feet by a tank car blevy. Over 7 years in the hospital and then rehab. Waverly TN. He was later the deputy director of TEMA, where I worked with him.

I have responded to so many tanker incidents that I can't even begin to count them. I am so sorry that I could not have one explode for your entertainment.

made National right what a joke

Over a year ago, Down in Dallas a (1) tanker car was on fire. very litter smoke and fire. National CNN, MSNBC, and Headline news. Was on the air with this fire for over two hours. All made it sound like it was a big thing. Here in KC large chemical fire (explosions) all made it's sound it's was nothing. they jest had a 15 sec. spots. This show the National do not care about the news they care about the money.

There is also a good rule of thumb about this sort of thing. The only relevant events happen on the east and west coasts and in selected urban outposts in the hinterlands. We got wall to wall coverage about a SMELL in the New York City a few weeks ago remember. That's right. Something was rank in Manhattan and it was breaking news on the cable news channels with on the street reports, news conferences at city hall carried LIVE around the world. Entire towns in Missouri could be swallowed up by the earth and replaced by bubbling pits of molten lava and it wouldn't rate 30 seconds especially if there wasn't video or some type of sorted tabloid angle to it. Now if all of the members of the town were hillbillies committing incest at the time when it happened bingo! 24/7 coverage! Get Greta and Nancy Grace on the next flight to Lambert and roll the satellite trucks. We need slack jawed yokels on the news pose haste!

Frankly, we in flyover country don't matter unless we can be exploited by the coastal media empire elites.

How true!! And I might add , if a wealthy family is involved , the media believes we should all care. A husband murders his pregnant wife, an underage "beauty queen" is killed, (tragedies none the less) and the story is followed in minute detail.

Then WHY do you listen to your scanners?????? Isn't it to hear the interesting and exciting stuff that goes on!!!!!!!!! You think this hobby would be very interesting if everything was just calm and quiet all the time. NO WAY!!! You shake your head at me but I dare you to just turn off your scanner the next time some big fire, accident, or police chase starts up!!! If you really think my whole intention behind that comment was to see someone hurt, you're way off!!! You can sit there and give me all these horrible examples of crazy things happening and, yeah, it's a horrible thing but I'm not going to take back what I said. It's the truth, hence, "to tell you the truth" . I don't remember saying anything like hey I wish that tanker would blow and hit somebody and put them in a coma for 20 years and then they wake up and die. What you didn't say, Iamhere300, was under what circumstances that the tanker blew up. Operator error?? Usually, but if it wasn't, yeah, then that's a horrible thing. You have my attention now, let's hear the story. Most people that have bad things happen like that come back to do jobs like that to teach awareness because they made a stupid mistake. If not, I respect this guy very much for jumping back in the saddle. You left it open for discussion...I don't know so I'm going to make an assumption of this guy just like you made with me......

So....you're saying there's no one that has "taken the courses, passed the exams, done the training, and made the runs" that have not done horrible, horrible crimes against society??? There's plenty out there have disgraced the things you hold so high.
And there's plenty of shows, "STRICTLY FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES" that give true life accounts of such happenings. I'll just stereotype you, okay. How does that make you feel?????? You can do the same as I'm sure you are. You haven't stereotyped some crackhead that you've seen OD and felt like you could spend your priceless time helping someone else who really needs it???? First off, its more than a hobby with me. Its a living, as well. I also use scanners in my Fire Department, where I am Chief.

We alsway have some sick twisted psycho that gets some kind of entertainment out of
an accident scene, but most of us when we hear of such things get our gut wrenched.

Now, you say that if it is operator error, than it is not a horrible thing? Then I take it that if you were doing your pot, (How did getting that dispatcher job go, with your four possession convictions on file?) and your judgement is impared, and you are involved in a motor vehicle crash that kills people, it would not be a horrible thing? (YOUR WORDS)

I did not clearly specify that if it was operator error that it would NOT be a horrible thing. No one should have to die from anything else but old age, and any other way IS a horrible thing. And no, my MISTAKES early in life resulted in nothing more than a criminal record (I know you were just speculating) if even that because I'm unsure if it's even on my record. (Lawyers) checking........will let you know if they are on file. Yes, it could have, but it didn't thankfully and it won't because those mistakes aren't being made and haven't for some time. I have yet to apply for the dispatching position because I might have better career opportunities awaiting. I don't understand how my past can affect the job that I am more than capable of doing. Just let me prove it to you.
The waverly explosion site was very informative to what had taken place. I thank you for forwarding that. It was a very tragic event and I apologize (like I said I would) if in any way I have offended you. Truly.
As for the sick twisted psycho comment..... you can think whatever you want. I could've cared less either way it would've turned out. You can make me out to be whatever or say whatever you want, it's the country we live in, you know. I made a comment and that's that, nothing more, nothing less.
