Have listened to PD/Fire comms for 55 years. Had the opportunity to "tour" a 911 dispatch center today. Holy crap I was in heaven. This was a totally cool experience for a nerd like me. What they do and go through at a pace like typing an email is amazing. Not to mention the vast visual info in front of them. How they monitor/select channels to communicate on and damn, just comfortable at what they do. TRUE PROFESSIONALS !! My job is a proffesional flooring guy. I have to make people happy and satisfied. If I do a very good job, I get a gratuity/tip. I do not think this happens with the dispatchers. As a General Ham operator, I totally respect the 911 people behind the mic over the "open" airwaves. We both talk over the air, but it's not the same. As the title says, "wow, impressive". Almost as fun as sliding down the fire pole multiple times even though I'm not affiliated with any dept.
