• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I had to send mine back for a PTT issue. The PTT line stopped working including for programming. I'm thinking maybe there's an issue with the ribbon cable between the head and body, so perhaps you have a similar issue affecting the power button line?

Great radios, though. I'm very happy with the mobile and will add P25 and other options in time. Beats Motorola's pricing. I'm normally an Icom person but Kenwood has the better product at this point, hands down.

Encryption???
I'm looking for possible answers on encryption. Our department is looking at purchasing a couple of the new NX-5000 series radio but not sure if the encryption we use will work with theses radios. The Encryption our department use is DES-OFB. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would assume so. Our TK-5220s have DES-OFB/XL encryption boards in them and work with a KVL.

Ok. I hope they would. All the info I have read on them just states DES encryption. Not very specific to saying it does DES-OFB

The standard DES in the 5000 is not OFB strength. You have to get the option board for DES OFB.
Unless your using 52 bit, which I think your not, then ordering the board will be your option.

There is no any metions about DES-OFB or XL in Kenwood Price List. So I can suppose that No. Also I belive that XL is Motorola proprietary feature.

Okay, from what I have been reading, and what your only saying, the standard DES in the NX-5000 will talk to any other radio with DES,
the right CKR and the right ID, has to be the same, as I have tested this with my NX-5700 and TK-5720 demo radio.
(which I have AES-DES KWD-AE21K) and the two talk encrypted in P25 mode. (I use the KPG-113AE to program it)

If your using a KVL-4000 then the external modules (3 types) should work.
I can't tailor this reply to specifics but you should be able to get the kenwood dealer your talking to
or their Manufacturer's rep to come up with a demo radio.
If you need more information, you can contact me privately by my gmail and I will see what I can get
for you.

Here is another good custom logo for Basic mobile head:

BasicPanel_Sample.bmp

Spent 1 hour on trying to create it in Photoshop, but it didn't work with any settings (color depth, etc.). Finally converted file in ACDSee in 5 seconds and it works fine.

KWD-DE21K. We are running DES-OFB/XL in our TK-5220s, key-loaded with a Motorola KVL3000.
