• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We are trying to hook 2 of these up for a mobile repeater because that's what we have extra of laying around... Is the cable for these pretty close to the NX-800 just the pins changed to match what they are on the 820s? Also these need the TTL level changed to the RS-232 internally correct?

Just a general search nets me nothing online...

Thanks

Different, DB-25 vs. DB-15, as I'm sure you know. The pin assignments are different and there's settings that will need to be programmed via software.

Correct, if it hasn't already been done, and you need RS-232.

I have the pin outs for both just needed to make sure everything else was the same, AFO 17 (800) = AFO 4 (820) and I can use a FNC to replace the AUXIO IE AUXIO3 22 (800) = FNC3 8 (820) which from the looks of the programming software I can. I just wanted to check before I attempted. Thank you

I do not have a service manual in front of me, I recall that you may need to move some surface mount resistors to change the function on the pins from DEO (detector) to AFO (audio Frequency out) and DI (Direct Input) to MI (Mic Input)

You'll need to add some components to massage the audio levels between AFO and the MIC input, but you're on the right track.

There's some chip resistors you need to move around in the radio to change the TTL to RS-232. Page 8 of the service manual. Something you want to do in a good shop with the right tools and a steady hand.
