To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Kenwood NX200/NX300 not reverting back to home channel issue

Hi all! I've had an account here for quite some time, but never really used the forums.
Anyways, I have all Kenwood NX200/NX300/NX700HK/NX800HK radios for my work (UHF) and FD/other job (VHF).
Specifically relating to the portables, I hope I can explain this easily, on my UHF NX300s, when you turn the radio off, it does not matter where the channel selector knob is located when it's powered down, if you put it back to channel 1 while the radio is off, when you turn the radio back on, it goes back to the home channel.
On both of my VHF NX200s, if you shut the radio off on let's say channel 2, then turn the channel selector knob to back to channel 1, then turn the radio back on, the radio is still on channel 2 (which in essence makes channel 1 on the knob now channel 2). The only was to correct the issue is to go to whatever channel you want as 1, turn the radio off, then turn the knob to 1, then turn the radio back on. This is dangerous in situations where you may accidently bump the channel knob then accidently turn the radio off, then need to turn it back on and immediately make a transmission.
I have the programming software and have compared both radios and cannot find any setting that may change this. The UHF radios in the "zone edit" have none under home channel. I've tried setting the VHF's channel 1 as the home channel, doesn't work. I've looked through all of the other settings and can find nothing. On the VHF's there's one bank with only 5 channels. I even filled the remaining channels with dummy channels hoping that might fix the issue, but negative. I looked through all the other optional features and everything with no luck.
I'm sure this is probably an easy fix, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, John

Do you have the channel/GID knob set to Roll Over or End Stop? (Optional Features 1, Common Page 1).

Also, look at your Zone setting page, make sure you Home Channel is set to None. Sounds like it's jumping to home channel when you are turning it on.

Go to KEY ASSIGNMENT > GENERAL and click the box for 16 ZONE/CHANNEL SELECTOR. This will make the channel numbers always line up even if the radio is turned off and the knob is turned. It does however limit you 16 channels maximum for the rotary knob.

Ramal's got it. I was looking at a NX-210 programming, same software, slightly different radio setup.

Awesome guys, thanks for the help! I'll give ramal121's answer a try here shortly. I don't care about the 16 channel max, I have different zones for more channels.
mmckenna, I glanced at that setting, but it was set to roll over on both band radios, so I figured that was not the correct option.
I'll let you know if I have any more questions, I've been updating some of the programming on all of my radios and getting ready to install my 3 mobiles in my newer car.
