kenwood tk-2170 portable

i just got issued this portable for my towns EMS, i was wondering how i get this unit to scan the channels.

You might want to ask the radio people who issued it to you, because it might not be programmed for scan, and if it is there are several buttons that they could have programmed to make it scan.

problem with that is a) the radio can be programmed to not scan and b) you have to assign the scan function to a key

your best bet is to ask the people who gave you the radio, but if you have hit all the buttons already and it wont scan you might be sol

I assumed that would be evident from reading the manual. I was wrong. H. L. Mencken, and others, apparently were right.

Try a 2 sec press on each button. Usually the buttons can be dual function, with short press = 0.25 sec or long press = 1 sec, or something like this. If your team was not issued a pager, then they expect the radio to be on the dispatch channel 100%. There may not be a scan button programmed.
