• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ive bought some of the above with a 6 charger base, all works fine. When i turn them it displays a name, i would like to change this to my company name, any ideas how?
Im guessing you can either program each one individually on the handset itself or its through PC software, although i cant see anywhere on the handset to plug a lead in.

Thanks you.

To my knowledge all kenwood radio dont have self programming enabled from kenwood and even if it is enabled its not very user friendly but to see if it is enabled hold the LAMP button and turn the portable on it will enter self programming mode and display SELF on the screen then you would be able to program the radio your self if this does not work you would have to take them to your local radio shop to have self programming enabled. As far as how they are programmed from a pc the programming cable would attach were your ext. spkr mic is attached.

Programming

I do believe there is a modification you can do to be able to program the X140 series from the radio its self. However, i think all you can do with it is change freq and pl's. The easiest way to change stuff is with the software (KPG74D) and the programming cable (KPG36). To change the name on the power up you go to Edit ->Optional Feature-> Power Up Text in the software. You can purchase it from your local Kenwood dealer along with a cable. The Cable is also available on Ebay. Hope this helps.

The KPG36 Programming Cable connects to radio on speaker microphone port. This port may be covered with a screw down dust cover. This port will have a bunch of gold contacts and the programming cable will have many pins.
