To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Friend brought me a 50watt TK-5710-k with no control head, I used a new KCH-14 I had and I can't read the radio.
Using KPG-95D software that works with my other 3 radios just fine.
Getting error message Check the transceiver model name and market code. Retry or Cancel?
Any ideas on the issue?

Could be a few things, not an exhaustive list, but a few places to start looking:

Did you activate the KPG-95D with something that looks like: 095K44######XXXX or 095K45######XXXX? That would set the market code for the software to North American to match the K model radio.

Is the software/firmware of the new radio at compatible levels? (Hold PF3 key while powering on)

Along the same lines, everything in the Model→Product Information dialog may need to be set first to match the radio, even just to read it. Some Kenwood software/models require this.

My KPG-95D program has the activation key and I can read & write my personal radio (TK-5710 - K) just fine.
The issue is with the one my buddy brought me. When I power it up holding the third button key I see
K G6.12.00.

Uh, that "G" look odd to anyone? I don't have a radio to check.

I finally got my programming cable and I'm trying to program my 5710. My software indicates that I can use the same package I used on my 5210s on my 5710. I there a way to transfer the Zones and Personalities from my 5210 programming to my 5710? At least transferring the personalities would be immensely helpful or am I stuck building everything from scratch for the 5710? I hate re-inventing the wheel.

Thanks

Model->Product Information

With radio connected and com port selected, press Read Configuration. It should populate with correct information for your TK-5710.

Save as a new file then write into your radio.

Thanks for the help. I apparently have version 1 of the TK-5710 and it only allows 250 personalities (it gave me a nasty gram pop up) per system unlike my 5210 V3 which allows a lot more. I whittled down System 1 to 250 and it programmed just fine.

Question for the masses on the 5710. How many channels are available per system for the 5710 V2? Total?

I've thought about getting a Version 2 if it adds worthwhile capability. I do like a front built in speaker.

The V2 doesn't provide a built in speaker. That's head choice. It sounds like you want the KCH-14 head (internal speaker) instead of the KCH-15 head (larger display, more buttons).
