Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening , My question is as follows . I have a TK-790-H radio with the 12 pin mic plug that I need to program. I have the KPG-44D software and the KPG-43 cable .
Does the 690 , 790 , 890 and 690-H , 790-H , 890-H series use the same software regardless if the radio has the 12 pin mic plug or the RJ-45 mic plug Thanks for the help.
Sending my Best Wishes to one and all for a Healthy , Happy and Merry Christmas . Steven

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an x90 with an RJ45 for the mic (on the radio side). What control head do you have?
Does the control head not have the round plug on front (where the 43 cable goes).

Good Morning , The older 90 series had the RJ-45 ( telephone type plug 6 or 8 pin or simular connector that go on the end of a cat 5 cable for a computer ) the 90 H series has the 12 pin round mic plug with the hold down screw. The radio is dual head and I believe the control head is the Full-featured (KCH-11) model. The 90-H B series uses the KPG 43 programming cable . Have a good day Steven

Every x90 radio I have, old or new, H or non-H, has the 12-pin mic connector on the control head.

To the best of my knowledge, every x90 radio programs using the same KPG-44 software, though there may be some slight incompatibilities due to the firmware version in the radio.

The TK-x90 series all use the same software.

The TK-x30 had a modular plug, not the TK-x90 series

Thank you sir and you are correct . I pull out my Kenwood low band and look at it and it's a TK-630 . not a 690. So I thank you and all members that reply for the info and update to my question. Now I'll be able to properly program the TK-790 radio . To all , Have a Healthy, Happy and Merry Christmas . Again Thanks , Steven

My memory is rusty, but there may have been forest service firmware/software for the TK-x90 series. I could be wrong though.

Yes, there was a "CalFire" firmware available for the TK-x90. It allowed pre-programmed channels to be assigned to an ad-hoc group thus allowing a radio to be configured in the field for an event-specific group of channels.

Not quite. CDF has two versions of firmware out tied to a memory upgrade allowing 250 max channels and a command group. TX DPS has a firmware package (I know it exists, may or may not be the same as CDF) as does Ontario Hydro (I do not know the details).

The CDF firmware dictates KPG-44FS the dos or windows version based on which firmware was loaded (1C77 or A93D).
