Does anyone know how I can get the kenwood g707a software to recognize a 3rd party program cable that is FTDI

On a Windows computer, when you insert the cable into the USB port, Windows will try to enable a driver that will create a virtual COM port. You'll need to find out what COM port number got assigned and then tell the Kenwood software to use that COM port.
all the kenwood TM-g707a software has is com-1 and com-2 it cant find any other one.. and the cable is coming up as com-4
You will probably have to do some research and you may have to dig into RegEdit, but there are ways to remap the COM ports.
Disable any serial devices that are not being used to free up the COM ports. Try to “lose” three of those devices. Reboot and hopefully the Kenwood cable port comes up as COM1 or COM2.
On my ancient windows 10 machine, you can reassign the com port number, if it's not already in use--there must be a way to do that in windows 11, as well...
...Also, if you want to invest a few bucks, RT Systems programming software for the 707 doesn't limit you to com 1 or 2.

I'm not familiar with that cable, and Google seems to indicate that it terminates in an RJ-45 plug... If that's the case, it's the wrong cable--it should terminate with a 6-pin mini DIN plug, that connects to the data port on the left side of the radio face.
This is the software I use, and I purchased the correct, plug-and-play cable along with the software:

I got frustrated with it so I decided to have a good hands-on approach and did it by hand
There you go... probably way better than arguing with a computer.
On my mobile installation, getting the programming cable into the radio body is such a complete hassle, since the radio sits under the passenger seat. I have to practically stand on my head to get the cable into the data port, so I just make my changes by hand.
I used to have a V7A years ago and I did the programming by hand on that beast as well.it didn't even take me that long on each side. 140 on each side if memory serves me lol
