Its also possible DPS is dispatched by the county on the weekend...happens in a lot of areas.
You might consider a post in the Texas forum asking if anyone in the CC area could help you with programming the WS1040...locals will know a lot more about usage and may not post the info here or to the DB
Outside of the DPS units working the toll roads, I almost never hear them here in the Dallas area. Once in a while, the dispatcher at DPS-Dallas can be heard directing a call to units elsewhere, like Kaufman County, but almost never as far as Dallas County itself is concerned. I think you're right, most everything is being handled by traffic via the MDTs, not voice traffic over the air.

No luck on the dps Frequency I put in for my area
Anthony, if I may offer a suggestion:

Click the Report link in the lower left corner of one of your posts. Request that a moderator rename your thread from the generic "talk groups" to something more location specific for your area. Something like 'Help programming a scanner for the Kleberg County area'. That would be more likely to catch the attention of someone in your area than just "Talk groups" would.

When I'm farther west, southeastern Stephens County, I'll hear Mineral Wells on their main channel. Most of the time, I can also hear the Aledo repeater. Mineral Wells DPS has an assigned TGID on FWRRS. There's also a DPS TGID on the Denton County system.

As has been kicked back & forth, it's possible that DPS in your area is not using the frequencies on the Texas Dept. of Public Safety agency page. Like I indicated, I just about never hear them here in Dallas.

For the trunked system, you do need both frequencies (for the system) as well as talkgroups. But the other counties near you, other than Nueces/Corpus Christi, are using conventional frequencies, which do not utilize talkgroups.

I see that the thread has been renamed. That is more likely to catch the attention of the active members in your general area.

Then once you get the frequencies confirmed and their use identified, click the database button, then the submit info and update the database so the next person with a new scanner in Kingsville will have it a little easier:)

I'm a little to far to the north to pick up the Kleburg County Public Service system consistently but can confirm that the control channel of 851.05 is almost always used. PD, SO, TAMUK and FD are all active on the system. Talkgroups listed are all that I have ever received. My recommendation is to program the control channel frequency in as a conventional object and confirm that you can receive the control channel signal. If received then create a trunking system with all of the frequencies listed in the database. If not receiving signal, are you inside a building or outside? If can receive outside and want to listen inside then an external antenna will probably be needed.
For DPS, When driving through that area I'm able to receive the Corpus Christi Base B and the Falfurrias repeater. The repeater allows you hear both sides of conversation. There is however, as mention above, very little traffic on these channels. Typically only hear dispatches to accidents.
