Hi all

I'm getting KNDG383 on 458.6125 MHz out of Whitefish, Mt. and I checked the FCC site and it says that freq only puts out 14 watts. How the heck can I even receive it in Libby at that distance at that power level.
Albeit, the signal is weak but clear. Is the antenna on Big Mountain ? Even that would be pushing it. And that is Flathead County OES, one of their frequencies. I have my mobile antenna stuck on the roof.

I checked the fcc site again and the antenna is on big mountain but at that power level that is still crazy that I can even hear it.

An interesting catch. Looking at the FCC listing it shows that frequency as a control station on Big Mtn feeding the repeater on Desert Mtn. Normally that would be a directional antenna pointed east to Desert Mtn not west to Libby.

But I see another control channel close in frequency and also on Big Mtn but controlling a repeater near Marion. If they used a common antenna for both frequencies then the angle between Desert and Marion would probably require an omnidirectional antenna. With the height of Big Mtn the signal could make it to Libby. I've seen stranger catches. Is the signal reliable? Or in and out?

I've talked with 2 watt handhelds line of sight over 40 miles, and keyed a repeater over 180 miles away with a handheld with the help of over water ducting.
