• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

This is not just specific to this software but how do I i get the name of the bank to show up momentarily after switching banks before it shows the name of the channel? Ive worked with 3180's that are set up like this and I have 2180's I'd like to set up the same way. thanks in advance.

The only thing I'm seeing is zone name length on the 89D but on the 111D I see that. Is there another option for it on the 89D?

I don't use 89D much so I just opened it to see and that feature is not in that software. I even checked the help file's index for Zone Name and there were no features by that name listed. I guess 89D didn't have it available... at least in my version (1.61).

Daniel,

I dug through my copy of 89D and couldn't find anything. I checked the manual and you can set up the codeplug to display up to 12 characters of the zone name, but it will shorten the channel name by whatever number of characters you specify for the zone.

I have the zones on my my radios organized by either county or service (e.g, ham radio.) What I do is to put a frequency that is either a county frequency or a ham frequency or something that I can recognize and know what zone it is in as the first channel of each zone. Another trick is to program in a dummy frequency, such as 136.000, receive only, with a inverted DPL tone (so the receiver never opens) and delete it from the scan list. Then give it the name of the service ("HAM RADIO" or "XYZ CO FD") or County ("XYZ COUNTY"). When you move the zone selector, that channel will show up first and identify the zone.

On our radios, we use a blank channel as the zone name. Put that in channel 1and put a quiet freq in there with a random tone.

This radio does not have the option to display the Zone Name when you change zones like the newer radios can. You can't just pick some random other software not designed for the radio and hope it gives it new features. Software is matched to radio model and firmware.

You can either have the zone name appear as part of the channel name (set zone name length to 3 or 4 digits--note it reduces available channel name length) or do the blank channel option (which is a new idea to me).
