• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey All,
Has anyone configured one of these yet? Any problems sharing keys from a KVL5000? What transfer cable did you use?

I just got a couple of these. I used my KVL5000 to APX6000 cable. The 7000 has a GCAI connector just like an APX6000. Transfer was similar to 5000 to 5000.

So, you used the KVL (CKN6904A) MX Connector to APX6000/8000 GCAI Keyload Cable? Also, where are the Diffie Hellman settings? I looked under VPN advanced settings but no dice.

I'd have to look at the TWI especially as the MX to MX legacy KVL to KVL cable is concerned on it it's pinout but I was looking at a few of the P/N's listed for the new keyload cables and some appear to be older cables that have had an additional description added. One of the things I'd like to try, HRS-10 to HRS-10 cable using nothing but HRS-10 keyload adapters. Like I mentioned, depending on how that legacy KVL to KVL cable is pinned out there may need to be a crossover of TX-RX lines (a null modem) in the HRS-10 to HRS-10 cable.

That would be a big deal because HRS-10 to HRS-10 cables are inexpensive and for all intents and purposes, the GCAI portable adapter is fairly cheap too. Seem to remember a similar setup for the KVL6000...and I still think the KVL7000 should just be called the KVL NEXT.

I know why, but I wish they would've kept the legacy MX connector so I could use the old transfer cable.

Looking to see if anyone has are part#s for GCAI to APX and NEXT Link Layer key generation and Auth Center Network/RJ-45 interface cables? I seem to have just keyload. I'll re-check these.

Per the KVL7000 UM, you use the programming cables and plug them into the USB port on the KVL. You may be able to do that with the KVL50000 (I don't think the RDNIS drivers were ever in the KVL4000) as well. Similarly, the mobile GCAI LLA cable and XTS LLA cables are just serial programming cables.

The KVL7000 has no USB or Serial Ports, just GCAI. Not all of the cables have come in yet, so I may be missing a specific LLA Cable.

Per the manual, you need the USB Host Adapter and then you just use the regular USB programming cables.
