Yes it does have activity. Air Ops, fire prevention, arson and event TGs tend to be the most frequent users.

Additionally, the battalion and bureau TGs have random chit-chat, usually around larger incidents when the 800Mhz analog channels might be tied up.

Are the talkgroups assigned to battalions actually tac channels? I suppose Event talkgroups could be used as tacticals, but Event frequencies and talkgroups are generally used for large preplanned events, such as marathons and similar.

The TGs assigned to battalions are mainly used for earthquake mode, tsunami mode, or other department wide, battalion wide, or bureau wide events that require non emergency coordination. All channels on the STRS system are not authorized to be used on incidents where members will be in an area of immediate danger to life and health (IDLH) because of the risk of not being able to transmit or send a mayday.

When earthquakes occur in the city, you will normally hear all companies in all battalions check in with their BCs via the talk group.

The event TGs are used for preplanned events.

Arson, TEMS, JHAT, Command, and Metro TGs are/will almost always be encrypted.

Airops TG is normally the most active and is always monitored by airops. I've heard it used between the aeromedic and the hoist ship on hiker incidents.

I was looking at the coverage maps in the RRDB and the two sites listed seem to be aimed more at metro-L.A, rather than the SFV. There looks like there is a site on Oat and on Mt. Lukens. Are those used, and are they simulcast? Just wondering about reception in the West SFV.Thanks.

I'm not sure about what site specifically gets used but I do know that it's receivable across the city boundaries. STRS is used by many other city departments and would likely go through Oat mtn for the valley tgs.

STRS is a very busy system hosting many LA City agencies - DOT, Public Works, Sanitation, Parks, and even the LAPD.

Both sites are simulcast. Not all TGs are on both sites. For example, if memory serves me right, most(all?) DOT activity is on Site 1..
