Can anyone in the Horry County area confirm for me whether or not the Lack's Beach Service frequencies/Talk groups in the database are still accurate for this season? I typically program them in every year, but last time I was in Myrtle Beach I heard very little traffic, if any, on their frequencies.

Scroll down to the very bottom for "Lacks". Looks like the are DMR...
Someone in Horry County or Myrtle Beach could confirm that the frequencies are still in use...

Just to answer/reply to my own thread... while in Myrtle Beach I monitored the Lacks' Beach frequencies listed in the database extensively and got no traffic at all. I did get a look at one of the Lifeguard supervisor radios when they were in a store. They're small Motorola radios and the display just said "NDS" so that didn't give much to go on.

It seems that businesses in the MB and NMB areas change radio providers too often to keep the database up to date. My wife and I stay at Ocean Creek Resort several times a year. It is a very large community with year round residents. Only the 152.3825 frequency has any traffic, but there are many housekeeping and maintenance personnel carrying handheld radios. The radios look like Motorola DMR with UHF antennas. However, all the listed UHF frequencies are quiet and have expired licenses.

That's the truth. I've been trying to pin down Apache Family Campground for years with no luck. Close Call doesn't find anything. I know they have radios and they are used, but it's the same there- the old frequencies are silent. It didn't appear the Lack's radios were very sophisticated (no signal bars, etc. were visible) based on the one I saw, but no way to tell what they were.

The wide-area Connect+ DMR system operated by what was once Myrtle Beach Communications (now part of Mobile Communications America) is quite active. It could be that some businesses have switched to that platform. Fleettalk is another possibility. Paying a monthly charge per subscriber radio is a lot easier than owning and managing your own infrastructure, licensing, etc.

It's tough to ID users on that system because it's busy with lots of other users.

I forgot about the Connect+ Network, but I'm pretty sure they are not on FleetTalk. I did ID Search on it for a solid 8 hours and didn't come up with anything that wasn't already in the database. I was surprised by that.

These repeaters are all currently licensed to Lacks and likely may be a new home for "South", "Central" and "Admin" as DMR channels.

461.4000
462.1625 - Confirmed "North"
463.6750
464.7750

North is talkgroup 500 and slot 1

Forgive my ignorance, but can you give me some guidance as to how you searched/found that info so I can maybe assist in identifying the others?

I have their list of frequencies of course, but am lost when it comes to figuring out color codes, slots, talkgroups, etc being used on them.

Always a good question! I had a SDS-100 portable with me and it displays this information since I have the DMR option added to it No magic, just the SDS-100 portable doing its work.

To start I just entered the 4 licensed frequencies and made sure to select the 'all' option for each one (not just analog and not just digital). Then went into scan mode. While scanning I did notice that it appeared that both the 463.675 and 461.400 repeaters always keyed up at the same time with a strong digital signal, but 462.1625 did not.

Next I sat near a north guard and verified that his audio (which was always turned up loud), was indeed what I was hearing.

Good luck with the other channels! It seems they change their setup routinely from year to year!
