LAFD Poor Reception

I just bought a Uniden 996p2 and having issues with LAFD and poor reception. I took the program straight from RR and nothing changed. A friend said heard there was a setting to deal with the issue, can someone please help

Can you provide more details? Is the signal weak? Distorted?

LAFD is analog simulcast (time synced TX from multiple sites, some very high level) so if you are in an area where you have a significant overlap, the phasing could be cancelling out the PL. Try listening without PL protection activated to see if that helps.

I've lived in LA most of my life and 800Mhz LAFD has always been marginal on a hand held scanner in my area. I recently got a Motorola XTS-2500 in 800MHz and it receives much better.

That's what I was thinking too. I get the same reception issues with LACoFD Blue 8 dispatch. Same deal.

One other thing to remember is channels 3,8,17 and 18 aren't simulcast on the Mt Washington, San Pedro or KSKQ sites.

I monitor LAFD quite frequently........... 996p2 or sometimes SDS 200 in my big rig (mobile) with outside 800 antenna.......some transmissions come in horrible......then a mile or two down the road, they come in crystal clear?........as I type I’m monitoring them now on my man cave’s Uniden 15x with a DPD Production outside railroad antenna coming in real good ........... but it’s early morning, when everyone turns on there cell phones later that will change...
