The Lakewood Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred southbound on S. Sheridan Blvd. south of W. Mississippi Ave. The accident happened at 2:45 am, Sunday morning.
A Dodge Charger driven by Esequiel Arriaga-Ruiz (09-13-76) was travelling northbound on S. Sheridan Blvd. in the right lane. Arriaga-Ruiz changed lanes to the left at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle. The Charger crossed over the painted median area and went into the southbound lanes of traffic, colliding with a 2004 Ford F-150 Pick-up head on.
Arriaga-Ruiz was transported to the hospital by paramedics. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The Ford Pick-up had two occupants and they were both transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Toxicology reports are pending on whether alcohol was involved as a factor in the accident.
There are no charges pending at this time.
