I happened to be in the Smiths Falls area, at a cottage on the rideau this weekend, and heard activity on 153.815 (analog). Lanark County must still use this frequency. Is this system p25 or multi site ? If i find anything, i will submit to database. What is the Tac frequency you are picking up. And according to TAFL 153.815 and 158.925 are current, update Aug 3,2010

more info

I heard that the current channel for the county is the Tx frequency for the multi site repeaters. there will also be a tacticla channel.( not shure what frequency it is) then there will be the 154.070 channel and then there will be a channel were they can talk back to dispatch direct. and there will also be a talk around channel. I also heard that Smith Falls fire is going ona new channel later .I also heard that the system will be turned over to p25 in the future. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Basically there's no new "system" in the traditional sense. They just rejigged the towers to they simul-cast. The basic transmit frequencies we'd put in the scanners are unchanged.
I don't believe they're about to replace *all* radios/portables/etc to go to P25. That just doesn't make sense for a system of this nature.

There is supposedly some new "United Counties" system being discussed, primarily in context of Leeds & Grenville, but so far the cost of that is causing some concerns with the politicians. Technically, what Lanark has done won't preclude them from joining the new system if it ever comes to pass.

As is often the case for conventional fire systems, TAFL is our friend
(to mis-quote am over-used catch-phrase usually applied to Google).

Search on "Lanark Highlands". There are two frequency pairs
153.815/158.550 and 153.815/158.925, plus simplex on 150.530
(new tactical?) and 154.070 (OFM).

There is no indication of narrowbanding, even analog, so who knows
how long the analog status will hold. Let's just hope they don't go TRBO
(did I day that!?).

Speaking of fire frequencies, I recently started picking up South Stormont
FD repeater out on 154.635, good signal into Ottawa. That was the old
Nepean Works channel, which was left in a scanner.

I also see in TAFL a pending frequency for Smith's Falls FD on
150.605, narrowband analog and low power (<10W) which looks
like a fireground channel.
