Where are they...really.

I have a well-programmed HP-2 and I have no problem getting everything from LV Metro, NLVFD, Henderson FD/PD - but I can't for the life of me get a lock on the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Could someone please point me in the right direction for their setup?

Tnx & 73...Gene / KG7XD

Well, yes. The database seems to indicate that's where I;ll find them. I've found a bunch of other SNACC user agencies. Checked and re-checked the TGIDs and everybody comes through just fine...except LVFD.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check your lockouts and services? I get LVFD Northwest no problem tgid 2567. Also recheck your control channels. Hope this helps??

I was thinking that as well - a list of possibilities:

- library out of date
- old vs. new SNACC system
- service types (Fire-dispatch, fire-tac)
- system sites being monitored
- is site needed in range?

Perhaps a stretch but - is location control playing a role? the "department" Las Vegas Fire has an 85 mile range centered pretty well over LV but the Las Vegas simulcast "site" only has a range of 25 miles and seems to be skewed a bit to the southeast of downtown....

BTW - as an aside - I see one of the fire tacs (TAC 211) has a "Law Tac" service type assigned to it....

Range

I can hear them on apex. Also read other posts there might be a problem on the west side sites? I was about to mention range settings but you seem to be aware of that.

I am totally befuddled on this. I've totally re-checked all of the sites, freqs, and TGIDs.

I'm hearing other services on the SNACC - for instance Henderson and NLVPD & FD.

I just added the RTC to see if they are in there (haven't heard anything yet).

In the site lists the primary and alternate control chans are different colors. AFAIK, that doesn't mean anything as long as they are in the lists - is that correct?

My QTH is very near Red Rock Casino. I don't have any trouble hitting Black Mtn and Red Mtn repeaters DMR and analog so I don't think receiving should be an issue.

If you have an HP-2 I'd be happy to send you my file to see if you can detect anything.

There it is!!!!

With great help from Troymail on this forum I've gotten my HP-2 to admit that the Las Vegas FD does exist.

It took a 2nd pair of eyes to note that several items were impeding the optimum scanning.

- Eliminated the NHP EDACS system from the group....increased scanning speed

- Trimmed down the Service Types being monitored....less channels to look at

- Pared down the sites being checked for signal...increased scanning speed

Much better performance now. Thanks for the guidance and 'edumacation'!

I haven't confirmed this, but I think CCFD and LVFD are silent dispatching their low priority calls. I live behind CCFD FS22 and hear them leave their station for calls but I never hear them dispatched.

Funny you mention this. When I was staying at the Paris back in early Sept., I can see Engine 32 responding out of City Center several times and never heard the call on dispatch which I had the talkgroup locked on with one of my radios. Not that I never heard them, but not as often as I saw them go out. Maybe using MDT laptops?

LVFR does not use phones to alert crews anymore, can't speak for the other entities. As far as radio traffic goes, sometimes we get info from the dispatcher over the air and other times we do not. Not sure if its a work load issue or just individual dispatchers doing their own thing. The info they put out over the air is already on the MCT in each unit so its redundant most of the time. You may not hear any traffic from the units responding as it is all done on the MCT's.
