Basically the law says don't repeat what you hear, and don't use what you hear for personal gain.

I would just not let everybody you know you have a scanner in your truck. Even though its legal to have one in your vehicle, if you go ambulance chasing or arrive at multiple scene's of events that you here over the radio, might draw suspicion. Enjoy the comms.

Industry Canada Digital Scanner License???

Hi there... In regards to this post I was never aware of such a thing as an Industy Canada digital scanning license and I used to be a land radio examiner for them. The idea is new to me and if such a thing is still issued currently I would like to know how to apply for one just to back my ass up in case of some legal issue later on down the road when it does become possibly more tightly regulated who can and can't monitor certain radio traffic. I can transmit in most bands because I am licensed to so I should be able to monitor them on a digital scanner legally as well should I not? The idea seems kind of silly because you can't interfere with radio transmissions with just a receiver. Unless they want to regulate who does and doesn't listen to certain radio traffic without encryption I don't see the point of issuing such a document... Meanwhile I'll look for application information and exactly what the whole purpose is.

There is no such thing, no application exists.

CANADA

Canada Customers Only (other than government officials): A radio license must be obtained prior to possession and use of a digital scanner. Please check with government authorities for further information on this Canadian regulation.

Oh God, not this again. Please, not this again.

There is no such thing as a digital scanner license. No licence is required to purchase, use or possess a digital scanner. No application for any such license exists.

Scanner/Master has very VERY outdated information. Over ten years ago, a circular from IC was issued suggesting that a license is required, but nothing came from it.

Digital scanners can be purchased, used and possessed in Ontario with great liberty.

Mike, I think a message stating this needs to be made a sticky in the Canadian boards

I have just created a post (soon to be a sticky) regarding this very issue.

Hopefully it will help to make things a little clearer.
