My microADSB was delivered today. Shipped February 24, arrived April 4. So, be prepared to wait.

Now I get to play with it. :)

Yep! I believe I have become the first GS/MU station using the microADSB. It's not as easy to set up as the more expensive brands, but it works at least as well and introduces some features that are absent in my ANRB box.

I had a similar problem the first time I ran the function test. Fortunately, the computer on which I use the micro does not get a new IP address very often. I set up the port forwarding for Port 9742 UDP in my router's configuration and got that straightened out.

I got the same router related message on the raw data transfer test, but that's not what the problem was as my port forwarding was working properly. Turns out the number 3 DIP switch must be ON for multilateration.

Ah ha! I'll try that when I get home. Wasn't aware of that. How did you figure that out?

UPDATE....Well hot damn. It's working with DIP 3 "On". Another MLAT Station in the SF Bay Area!

Do these ADS-B sharing sites providtracking for military aircraft? How about civilian aircraft that have 'blocked' their tracking on sites like www.flightaware?

Yes and yes.

Some military flights have ADS-B (E6B's) some do not. MLATs (using signals from ground stations, software predicts location) are possible with Mode S only radar which all aircraft has.

We are receiving data directly from the aircraft so they can't block it.

Thanks. I had seen the volumes of ads-b logs on various lists (e.g. milcom.qth) and blogs (e.g. larry's milcom blogspot), but didn't know if they blocked military flights as a matter of policy on the flights.

What are the choices of ads-b receivers? You have a microadsb. There is also the SBS-1. What other choices and is there a good place to read competitive reviews?

What!?!?!? I have never seen a military aircraft on my radar with ADS-B! Some DO provide Mode-S though, where I catch alot of tankers, transports, and other types of non-fighter/attack aircraft, and I haven't seen any any of the fast movers (fighters) use Mode-S (Way different in Europe!).

Same goes with props- I have only caught a C-182 once, and a few other small props with Mode-S. Don't expect to see them on ADS-B though, along with military.

Mode-S or ADS-B is not required in the united states; but is getting more popular, and will continue to grow.

As for the blocked- yes, and no. Depends if the aircraft has Mode-S and ADS-B. I have caught the WWE plane (forget tail) on Mode-S, but not ADS-B.

Keep in mind the list people put out are Mode-S logs, not ADS-B logs. Some may be equipped with ADS-B (Tracking) though. You have to have Mode-S to have ADS-B.

Read up on Wikipedia about it- there is a great article to understand it better on there, with all types of transponders.

Every time I've seen an E6, it's had ADS-B. Saw a C5 the other day too, but that was the first time I saw that.

With MLATs, you can get position on aircraft not transmitting ADS-B, so like I said before, if you have enough ground stations receiving the military aircraft or any aircraft for that matter, you can get an MLAT position.

Finnaly, there is nothing blocked. If you get it on Mode S and not ADS-B, it just means it doesn't have ADS-B.

Wow, that's surprising. I have had some E-6's, but they don't have ADS-B. Danget! Send some of those ADS-B equipped birds this way!!! :)

I thought you had the two confused, my apologies! :)

Go to Albert's Live-Mode-S Military website for Mode-S/ADS-B logs!.

Click link for the Military Planes with ADS-B page.

If you know the E-6 is flying you can find it on few sites like.
From users uploading their ADS-B data to the sites.

Caveat: As far as I know the only sharing network that offers MLAT is the PlanePlotter network. The locations of MLATted flights are only available to users who either participate in sharing raw data or those who pay a fee to see that information.

Some of us get ferried around in aircraft that only deliver a primary return. No transponders, radio silence.

Most of the time you won't even see us on ATC radar....

Got my MicroADSB yesterday and feeding ADS-B with MLAT in the central California valley now. Don't have permanent antenna up yet but it's working.

Update...
Received my DPD ADS-B and WOW! Get it if you don't have it already. Receiving aircraft over 140 miles compared to around 40 with old antenna.

microADSB receiver sensitivity

My microADSB was delivered today. Shipped February 24, arrived April 4. So, be prepared to wait.

Now I get to play with it. :)

I have only just discovered the micoADSB unit and am considering one and a Google search for information led me here.
One thing that bothers me is receiver sensitivity. Having had the unit for a while now, I wonder how you find the sensitivity of the microADSB, particularly in comparison to others?
If you have time, perhaps a review would be useful for others who are interested.
