Cool, never knew you could guess the calls.

How hard is it to do a vanity call? I know vanity calls are hard to get from what I heard.

Vanity calls are very easy that's what many have. After you get your call you can then look one up for yourself. Just remember you can only pick one with a K, N, or W. A number then 3 more letters because will only have a Tech license (General too)! Also you don't have to keep the 3 in you call.

As others have pointed out, it's easy. There are numerous sites to check if a particular call sign is "probably" available. Then you can fill out the form and pay the fee right on the FCC website. Once the application is processed (usually within a day), it take about 3 weeks for it to be finalized.

...And don't do what I did. If you're planning on upgrading your license and getting a vanity call, don't do both at the same time. I was told it screws up the process since the FCC system can only handle one of your requests at a time.

Vanity Application Processing Schedule

Here some facts about the timeline for application processing:

Vanity applications are usually processed on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Applications received on Monday are processed on Friday, 18 days later.

Applications received on Tuesday are processed on Saturday, 18 days later.

Applications received on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday are processed on Tuesday, 18 days after the Friday date.

Holidays occuring between the received date and the processed date don't seem to change the schedule.

However, Monday holidays cause the Tuesday processing to be a day late.

Applications filed on Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday are marked "received"

An application arriving at the FCC on Saturday will be assigned a "receive date" with the next business day,and date stamped the next business day.

Applications are processed as a batch job in the early morning hours while the ULS system is off-line. If the batch job fails it may cause grants to be delayed.

Yes, I included my FRN on the appropiate sheets. The new VE Team said that since I am new, but I am already registered with a FRN, that my license will take less time than a 100% new person. is this true?

Also milkman,

I contacted the VE Team and he said that since their local club volunteers for the ARRL, they still have t mail it to the ARRl in Newington, CT then they will give it to the FCC Electronically since the ARRl is like the VEC for all licenses.

gejothho, is that for Vanitys only, or for new Technicians (New Callsign)?

I've read on multiple forums threads on RR that some people took tests on Saturday, like me, and the VE send them out Monday, and they get a call Thursday.

Yes, that is true. The ARRL-VEC provides their VE teams with a priority mailing envelope so that the forms can be mailed back to the ARRL-VEC for processing.

No, they aren't. The ARRL-VEC only handles license applications from their VE teams. The other VECs have their own means of processing license applications.

Got my Technician license WITH a CSCE. I only missed "a few" questions for the General, but im not into HF, only 2 Meter.

Thanks!

Upgrade anyway. The old saying "better to have it and not need it than to need it an not have it" applies. Wouldn't it be better to be able to use your own call sign if a friend offered to let you try his HF radio than to have to operate as a third party using his call sign? Besides interest change as time flows by.

Correct.
That info is for Vanity's only.

Oh, hopefully my callsign is in the ULS tomorrow because im like a kid the night before Christmas. Im honestly not worried about the paper license, because it must be in the ULS before you can transmit.

Lets see in about 10-12 hours when I wake up!
