Good day all,

As a newbie and decidedly non-electro-tech I'm seeking help with a frustrating intermittent garage door remote control issue.

First off, let me answer a question from way back concerning the two (long and short) purple antenna wires which seemed to befuddle you experts. I believe the short wire signals the wireless light fixture and the long wire the remote controls. Seems logical since the light activates by motion control sensor on the wall pad as well as when the door is activated. Maybe you guys were over-thinking the matter.

I installed my LM3800 about 7 years ago and it worked perfectly until December 2017 at which time both remotes began to fail intermittently. The door opener works perfectly from the wall pad. Here's what I tried so far -

1. Replaced all batteries.
2. Purchased new LiftMaster 371 remote control.
3. Replaced the logic board.
4. Removed the wall pad and installed simple bell-push temporarily.
5. Disabled adjacent wireless door bell.
6. Disabled outdoor key pad.
7. Erased memory and re-programmed two remotes and wireless key pad countless times.

After step 7, everything works fine for a while, maybe half a day, maybe 3 or 4 days, then suddenly it doesn't work with remote #1 but works with remote #2 (or vice versa) and sometimes with neither remote, nor the key pad. Generally, it can be made to work at VERY close range, say 3', which isn't remote in my book!

Don't know if the original logic board went bad (and if so why?) or if the replacement board was bad or if there's another cause which I haven't found. Nothing changed electrically in or around the opener or the garage in recent memory. Any ideas?

Anything electronic can generate noise.
Turn off all electronics in proximity of the GDO and try it.
.......
Broad band noise from electronics will cause the exact symptoms you describe.
......
More than likely broad band 315-390mhz noise is jamming the receiver.

I know of one instance where replacing the spiral CFL bulbs in the garage and the openers with LED bulbs resulted in loss of remote function. The little switching power supplies in the LED's bases were making enough RF noise to confuse the receiver. Going back to CFL's solved the problem.
