Location Control on Sentinel

I'm trying to turn off the Location GPS for the SDS 200 ... for hundreds of locations.
I can do it on the scanner 1 at a time ... but if I go to edit it has a location column that shows the statis of YES or NO for location usage.
Can I use the sentinel software to turn off all the GPS locations at once?
Hopefully you can follow what I'm trying to say???

You turn it off on the favorites lists. You can do this in Sentinel or or the scanner.

But either way, you do each FL one at a time.

Once you set Location Control to Off for a Favorites List using Sentinel, that applies to all locations in that Favorites List. If there are numerous site and department locations in a given Favorites List, that one setting would effectively turn all off, or not used.

So if you have ten Favorites Lists, then all you have to change is ten.

That said, if you have a large number of locations, turning off Location Control may lead you to scanning a lot of stuff at the cost of missing things you might think are important.

You can assign a quick key to each favorites list. Pressing the quick key number and then E on the keypad will toggle the favorites list on and off.

OK ... now I'm looking at this problem again ... please be patient.

When I turned the scanner on, It said "nothing to scan"
In order to have the FL to scan, I have to turn off the Location ... it's looking for the GPS
I know I can do 1 FL at a time , but I want to do it to 100s at the same time (if there is a way?)

No, but you can enter your location using zip code or lat/long coordinates especially if you are stationary.

I no longer have a working GPS ... and if the location is marked "YES" it's looking for a Location from the GPS .... if it can't find one it will not scan that Favorite List (means most of my FL)

Location doesn’t have to be from gps. Zip code or lat/long work fine, as long as your location stays more or less the same.

Then with 100 favorites lists you need to get another gps. The scan will be so slow that if you don't do that you will be back here complaining about all the missed parts of conversations. There is no answer to this other than a gps.

Ok, one point… do you have FLs to cover the drive from BC to Southern CA? Or you fly between the two end-points? You can save two locations in the scanner by zip or lat/long and flip between them if you fly. But if you are driving the whole way you would need a gps.

Sorry for explaining things very poorly, but i found it took less time to do the favorite lists one at a time than try toss it out to the group.
So I don't know if what i was trying to do can be done in Sentinel even though there is a non adjustable entry place in the software.

As for your comment ... I don't want to turn the favorite lists on and off (I know how to do that) ... but the scanner will not scan the Favorite lists if the field for Location is turned to YES and there is NO GPS attached to the scanner.

As others are trying to tell you - the above is NOT correct.
The radio looks at the lat/long in the radio.
If it's dynamically being updated by the GPS module, it uses that location.
If you MANUALLY enter a lat/long, the radio will look at it's programming and scan what it is told to do by it's programming.
Same result, just a static location in the radio.

That said, a drive down I5 certainly would need a GPS.

As noted several times, not having a GPS connected will not prevent Favorites lists from being scanned, even if set to use Location control.

What will prevent them from being scanned is if the last location in the scanner, at the point the GPS was connected, is out of range for your programmed lists. The scanner would retain the last location furnished by the GPS when the GPS is turned off or disconnected. Turning off location control on any, or all, lists would trigger the radio to scan them, regardless of the last saved location.

If I follow what you saying.
Go into sentinel, click on a favorites list. click program favorites, this should bring up your systems,
at the top of that list the name of your FL will be highlighted, there should be a tab "options" click on it, you should see "location control"
change that from yes to no. Then up-date your scanner. This will allow the scanner to scan with out the GPS
There are some Youtube video's that may help you figure out what well work for you. There are 3 by K4DPS on location based scanning with and without a GPS for the 436/536 which may help.. Also a couple from "The Scanner Guys" on programing for scanners for road trips.

By the way, wouldn't hurt to double check and be sure your quick keys are turned on.

Unfortunately Heidi750 is correct. Only the Favorites List(s) that match up with the entered Lat/Long will "turn on". I take it there is much travel involved, so as the scanner goes from one area to another, the only enabled FL will be scanned. (But that's out of the area.)

So there is going to be some tedious Favorites List by Favorites List entry needed.

There is the potential of entering zip codes from time to time and setting the global Range to 50.0. That way only once per hour or so, zip code change may be necessary.

I'd suggest consideration be given to Startup Key usage. One state/province per Startup Key and as a new state is entered, then go through the motions.
