• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

hey guys I'm always jealous of how well everyone does here.. seems I hardly hear what everyone else hears and never get the long contacts most of you get.... I always blame it on Massachusetts.... well after reading a comment about how someone doesn't get much signal near the ocean I started thinking....
I hear Colorado all the time talking to the Carolinas and to Oregon and California..... he must be up high in the mountains...
I thought of my location.

to the North
I'm a few miles from Plymouth Harbor ......pretty place every house in my area has a boat in the yard and on the weekends everyone goes to Plymouth Harbor to go sport fishing or to the islands on the islands are nice restaurant then they sail back home....

to the south
I'm 25 miles from New Bedford Harbor where all the commercial fishing boats go out to get fish and lobster for the rest of the country...

to my East is Cape Cod ... about 65 miles to the HOOK of Massachusetts.. and about 35 to 40 miles top to bottom.....the federal government made it a protected forest and protected beaches back in the 30's......it's thousands of acres of forest and 100's of miles of beaches ( bottom of the hook side of the hook and top of the hook) not a lot of people as it is forest rangers, parks and recreation.....

my elevation is SEA LEVEL!!!!

I looked on a map... to the south of me is ocean and it is nothing but ocean all the way past Florida... no other states stick out into the ocean as far as Mass
to the North is OCEAN ...ocean until you get to Nova Scotia and the wilderness regions of Canada!!!
65 miles East is very few people and then nothing but OCEAN!!!!!
so I have the West all the way to the West coast...no wonder I never hear many people.... 3 out of 4 directions are Ocean!
maybe I should give this hobby up.

If I could get the wind-up Satans Monkeys from Florida out of my receive, it’d be a great thing.

Funny everything works here in the arm pit of the state !

Swing the beam to 50 Degrees and talk to europe in the morning and point it 300 Degree's and talk to the west coast in the afternoon !

Plymouth to New Bedford is 25 Miles But you are Eye balling the Cape Area and the South shore to the North
Got to be sombody out there.

Id say scan the band 7-9pm and see if the base stations are on locally.

GREAT info N1EXA thank you
I'll try some of those channels and see what I hear... I hooked up my Antron 99 on October 20th... so I have not had a lot of time to play with the radio yet, I may have had it on for 2 hours after 9PM. .. I was more judging my lack of people around here on my mobile... and again I have only had that hooked up for about 6 or 7 weeks.. again, I only use it about once a week to go food shopping... but it seems I hear skip all across the country....... but I hardly hear people from Mass talking back to them.... my house is about 5 miles into the woods.. if I try to get someone on my mobile from my home it hardly ever works.... but if I go into town on my mobile and I ask for a radio check I generally get someone within 15 miles.. so I know there are more people than I thought there was. I guess I just haven't caught people on the channels you mentioned.
38LSB I always hear a few locals...
New Bedford is a pretty good sized city... I know it has a lot of people... Middleboro has more squirrels than people
I really shouldn't have judged the area until my Antron 99 was up.
on your map looking at New Bedford to Plymouth is 25 miles... it gets a lot thinner going to the East ( Cape Cod) when I drive down to the cape if I remember correctly I think I put 60 to 65 miles to get to the end.... and after those 65 miles nothing but ocean... so I really think we have a LOT less people on radio compared to other parts of the country... and our elevation has got to hinder talking to the rest of the country. at least using AM.
