Well I have now heard the rumor from a very very reliable source that London PD will be changing over to a digital Kenwood Nexedge system. I don't know anything about a time frame but from the way it sounds sooner than latter they will make the change. I have been hearing Laurel SO is also planning on making the change but the last word I had funding had put the stops on that for the time being. But as all things go in Laurel County if the PD does it the SO will to all in short time. I guess we all better hope they come out with a scanner soon or just go ahead and pony up the money for a radio.

Ask why

If you feel like taking an active role in this, ask your elected officials WHY they want to do this. Usually the reason given is because "communications have become unrealiable". Often, this is very true. But the reason is because the coax for the base stations and repeaters have not been changed since the system originally went in 20-30 years ago. Any ham will tell you that feedline needs to be changed every ten years. Or it gets lossy, and the bases and/or repeaters recieve capability diminsihes through the years. Suggest a feed line swap as a cost-effective alternative to the elected officials (notice I'm saying the elected officials, not the PD or SO?). Then you'll still be able to hear who you want.
