Is there a store in the Lexington area that sells 2m/70cm handhelds or do I need to shop the net? I prefer having a real person in front of me when I hand over moeny for something like this.... (I am looking for a new handheld that will push five watts on 2m and 70 cm with computer programmable memory and enough alpha memory so I can remember where the freqs I have programmed work)

thanx for the help....

Hey bud...as far as I know there is not a place in the Lexington Area that sells Ham Gear...you will probably have to do one of the following:
1) Contact BARS (Bluegrass Amateur Radio Society) and see if anyone has any used gear for sale (I have obtained most of my handheld ham radios second hand and have not had any problems yet)....
2) or surf the web...I recommend Jeff at The Ham Station...he is right up the road in Evansville, IN and is very reliable...
Give me a call or email/PM if you have further questions on what type of HT to go with...you know where you can find me :)

I 2nd the suggestion to call Jeff at the Ham Station. I ordered a Yaesu FT-60 from him and had it a couple of days later. Very happy with the radio also.

It's just the good folks in Kentucky watching out for one-another.... unfortunately, I haven't gone on the air yet.... still waiting for the money to catch-up with the wish list....

Always fun to reach into the bowels of the forum and bring back a thread....

You just missed the annual Central Kentucky Hamfest last week (August 13) here in Lexington. R&L Electronics was there selling just what you needed. There are no ham stores near Lexington. R&L is in Hamilton, OH and they have been a good place for me to do business over the last many years. I use a Kenwood TH-F6 which has the 2 meter, 1 1/4 meter and 70 centimeter bands. It is also a good all around receiver (AM/FM radio, VHF, UHF, etc.).

I can recommend R&L also. I've been to the store once and bought a tri-band VX5R, and bought a Kenwood 2-meter mobile off them at the Toledo Swap. It's about a half hour, if that, from Cincinnati.
