Is the GRE PSR500 and 600 still the pre-ferred options?? If one was to buy either one does some one have programming files they would be willing to share ?? I am in the northeastern part of the state. Campbell, Crook, & Weston counties.

Oh, and hello to Larry ( LES ) ( miss you on the county hunters net ) and the rest of the amateur ops here.

I'd be interested in hearing everyone's opinion too. I'll be upgrading hopefully this spring (about a year behind when I'd hoped, but that's the breaks when work was hard to come by a year ago). I've been looking at both Uniden and GRE options, since I'll be learning pretty much from the get go, and am currently running a BC80XLT from 1995ish, which, strangely enough when I got it a few years ago, was programmed via frequencies provided on Leo's site.

Radioshack PRO-96 and 2096 that are currently on clearance work great on Wyolink and are easy to work with via the keypad on the fly.

BC396t/996t (and the future 396XT) are good options if you are more inclined to use Uniden scanners.

GRE PSR-500/600 PRO-106/197 work as well but are complicated and not user friendly by any means

I use a Uniden 396 for WyoLink & HP conventional, with a RH96 remote head and powered speaker in the truck. Does a good job for me.
