I'm kinda wondering if I should granb a good deal on a icom 7300 for HF or try to sell my 500 and 10 meter rigs and just get the yaesu ft991a..Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Either way. Both are good radios. With the 991, you lose the versatility of having your mobile radios, but you also gain SSB, etc. for VHF/UHF.

I own a couple 7300s and they are great radios.
Yeah I considered selling my ftm500 and my two ten meter rigs and getting a 991-a... Or selling both ten meter rigs and keeping the ftm 500 as my dual bander and the 7300 as HF and ten meter.. I've also considered dabbling in dmr

I don't recommend "shack in the box" radios. If one part of the radio fails, you lose the communications abilities of the other parts of the radio while you send the radio off for repair. An HF radio plus a separate VHF/UHF mobile seems like a better approach to me.
