Have a loose bnc connector on the back of of 996. Is there a way to tighten the connector without sending it for repair? Most frequencies are coming in full strength

I suspect the connector may be secured by the two screws on either side of it on the back panel. You could try gently nipping them up if they are loose.

Seems to be secured with a nut on the inside. Not something that requires sending in for repair.

Loosen the large nut on the back of the BNC connector and put a drop of blue locktite on the threads on the back of the connector. Do not, I repeat Do not use red locktite. Blue locktite is removable, red locktite is permanent, and I do mean permanent.

What worked for me when I replaced a bnc connector in a much tighter situation was take a flat screwdriver and with a hammer to tap on the screwdriver with the flat part on a corner of the nut to loosen, then repeat.
In your case you could do the opposite to tighten.
I would just go with a bit of gorilla glue and while the nut is moved it will spread the glue around it.
Instead of using a product that wont move again, what happens if there is a need to say replace the connector that I ended up doing?

I have had many bnc get loose over the years on many different scanners. The proper way is to get a small open end wrench that's the correct size and tighten it back down. I have never had one come loose again. Or you could use a small baby adjustable wrench and do the same. Unless your handy with tools, I would only use needle nose pliers as a last resort. FWIW, I have never used loctite or glue.

The whole connector, but the bottom is what’s moving up and down

Have you checked these 2 screws on the back of the scanner to make sure they are tight? They may help stiffen the chassis around the connector.
