Is Loudoun County fire still using CTCSS on their VHF freq (46.380)? I have it programmed into my 396 with CTCSS on and hear nothing until I disable it. Unfortunately, without it I pick up so much interference in the computer room I have to lockout the channel.

Actually Loudoun switched to a simulcast transmitter system on 46.38 several months ago. When they did this, they no longer transmit the CTCSS because it is harder to syncronize the transmitters when you also tx a tone. So you must listen in CSQ. They used to manually simulcast before, but the transmitters were not syncronized and beat against each other. Transmissions used to sound horrible and were often unintelligible.

thanks for the correction. you could submit that to the DB so we all have good info.

that might explain why I haven't heard them on that freq in a while.

Good info all around... thanks. That explains some things locally and also why Augusta County (460.550), who also has multiple dispatch sites, dispatches CSQ.

Thanks for the info. I'm disappointed I have to miss calls when next to the computer, but at least I understand why.
