So I frequently listen to fire feeds in Jefferson county. However yesterday i heard a unit i was unfamiliar with. Quint 179. Now with the suburban numbering system, that theoretically would be an auxiliary quint for okolona. However, there’s no Okolona station 79. So I just figured i misheard or the dispatch misspoke but when I asked about it on a facebook page, a firefighter who works for Feen creek said that it was a Zoneton unit in Bullitt county. I am familiar with Bullitt county departments and apparatus, but i thought they used a 4 digit system just like the old Suburban system (besides SFD) did they switch? If they did switch does anyone have info and apparatus/Station numbers? Zoneton makes runs in Jefferson county somewhat frequently and some suburban departments make runs into bullitt so info would be helpful.

I can tell you everything you want to know about that one.

Zoneton and Okolona have long had an automatic mutual aid system, as does Fairdale and Zoneton along with Fern Creek and Mount Washington.

To "fool" the Jefferson County Computer Aided Dispatch system, they had to give Jefferson County unit numbers to the Zoneton companies, in essence making them Jefferson County units for dispatch purposes. Things went pretty well for a long time as Jefferson County was still using 4 digit numbers.

But then, for better or worse, Jefferson County revised their number system, patterning it like Louisville Fire. So more creativity was needed for Zoneton and they came up with Zoneton Station one being Station 79 and "Quint 179". To a lesser extent, Zoneton Station two is Station 84 and the engine being dispatch from there to Fairdale would be "Engine 184".

There is discussion underway of possibly changing all Bullitt County Fire units with an effective time in March. I've seen a draft, but it is all subject to change, so I'd rather not publicize it.

Thank you!!! Ik Zoneton runs a lot of aid to Jeff co. Quint 179 is what i was confused about yesterday on a false alarm that came over as a working fire. I personally like the system that the suburban departments adopted, for me i already have every unit memorized. I heard a rumor that a mew Bullitt county system would be introduced in march but idk how true that is. The only issue is, The Jefferson County Department already took all the numbers so if they wanna use a system similar there would certainly be overlap. Perhaps they just use the 10s and 20s considering the odds of a Bullitt country unit working with a LFD unit are relatively low. Maybe they can use a 3 digit but mirror the suburban departments. Maybe Bullitt county units use a 9 and then station numbers for the specific apparatus. Just making an example up, say Zoneton takes a 81 and 82 for station numbers, to not be confused with Fairdale, current Quint 8155 could be Quint 981. Idk im just thinking out loud lol.

10's and 20's wouldn't work because as you say, they are used by LFD. If there was another GE level fire where everyone and their brother was involved, it would be a CAD headache.

Stay tuned!
