I currently have 3 Antenex antennas (scanner, dual band radio, CB) with the trunk grip on my 97 Crown Vic. I want something a little more low profile but I do not want to put holes in the body to do this. Any ideas?
Anything low profile will be useless on 27mhz. I'm not sure if anyone makes a dual band low profiule antenna for 2mtr/440 (as I assume thats what you mean by dual band). The scanner antenna really depends on what you want to listen to.
I like to advise upfitters against drilling holes anywhere if it all possible. For any antenna, I start with trunk grip then if I have to I will drill.
If you are in a area where everything you want to hear is pretty close low profile will do fairly well. Howeverif you are trying to receive in a rural area or trying to hear neighboring towns 25 to 40 or more miles away you will notice considerably poorer performance. On uhf and 800 you have low profile with a quarter wave so no problem. But on vhf or low band anything less than a quarter wave really cuts the signal especially low power stations and simplex systems. In my opinion trunk lip mounts are hard to beat on vehicles where you can use them. I like magnets but most people with new cars don't want a scratch mark.
