For those visitors to the south Cape May area, be advised the Lower Township Rescue Squad (BLS 12) was disbanded in June and replaced by EMS services provided by Inspira Health. Lower Township Inspira calls are paged by County on 154.13 as "BLS 89". The dispatch tones are the same as they were for the prior Lower Township Rescue. The county dispatchers sometimes forget and page calls for "BLS 12" but usually they correct themselves. The Inspira units call in service and communicate with dispatch on NJICS talkgroup 4989, listed as CM EMS OPS in Radioreference.
The disbanding really didn't come as a big surprise. I've visiting the area multiple times over the past year and found that more and more Lower Rescue calls were ultimately handled by units from Cape May City, Wildwood Crest and Middle Township. The shortage of volunteers for fire and ems is certainly a nationwide issue.
