• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If pins 1-2 are jumpered by accident, instead of 15-16, will that blow out the audio amp?

So you jumpered Ext Spkr (-) to Mic Audio In. Here is the Service Manual:

Have you studied the circuit to see what might happen? Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

You might tell us if something seems to not be working correctly. Do you think the audio amp is blown? Are you not getting any mic audio at all, some audio is going through but severely attenuated, audio is distorted, etc.? Is the speaker audio okay? Stuff like that will help.

Just asking a hypothetical question may not be the best way to approach this. A tech or engineer familiar with the Motorola M1225 will have the best shot at answering your question with some additional information and what you have done in the way of troubleshooting.

The short answer is… Yes, it’s possible.

Is that what actually happened? That is an unknown right now. With more information and by studying the Service Manual, whatever might have happened by jumpering pins 1 and 2 can hopefully be figured out. At least you will know what to start looking at in the way of troubleshooting. There is also the possibility that nothing happened by jumpering pins 1 and 2. If something still is not working, it could have a pre-existing fault prior to the jumpering error. Is that possible?

I didn't do it. I sold a radio to a local Amateur. He says neither the internal speaker or an external speaker works (no audio at all). It's been a few years, but I know that it did work. The radio has been in a plastic storage bin since I last used it.

He used an online picture of a different radio, and jumpered what he thought was pins 15-16. Turns out it was 1-2.

Those use BTL audio amplifiers, and grounding or otherwise abusing one of the speaker output pins can damage them.

That's sucks that he did that to the radio, but I'm hoping he's not expecting a refund.
