Out of curiosity - why?
There isn't any magnetic data storage media in the radio.
Nor anything internal that I'd think magnetism could mess with, and the metal case is a shield anyway.
However, the metal case of the radio technically isn't big enough to give you a proper ground plane.
Example:
For 850 MHz, you'd need a ground plane with a minimum radius of approx 8"-10", which is roughly a quarter wavelength. A larger surface, like 12-14 inches would be even better for performance. A simple metal sheet or a cookie tin is a good base.
