• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I live in a mobile home and it’s in a mh park and I was told I could not errect my antenna because of the outside antenna and being seen from the road and my roof is all metal . I’m not able to key a repeater that is only 10 miles away and I live in a hole and I have tried the magnetic mount and it’s not working, I was wondering if a gmrs jpole hung up under a ceiling light fixture work ?

A J-Pole is a half wave antenna, and with no ground plane under it, it has zero gain. Not great performers, when compared to other antennas.

Mounting one inside the mobile home, especially if it has metal siding, isn't going to help matters. No gain, surrounded by metal, I'd not expect much.

I know they don't want one visible outside the mobile home, but a 1/4 wave UHF antenna is going to be 6" tall and getting it up on the roof will work better than a J-Pole inside the trailer. A 6" tall whip isn't going to stand out and it's going to be impossible for someone to see. Any chance you can do that? Getting something, anything outside the metal box is going to help.

If you have a car, what about running coax to the car that has a mobile antenna on it?

Or try your mag mount atop a large metal appliance in the house - fridge, stove.

Agree, these ideas are in the weeds but try 'em anyway. Good luck!

Camouflage the antenna somewhere outside your trailer. Get a fiberglass gain antenna. Mount it in your garden on top of a tomato stake on the non-street side. Plant a tomato under the stake and let it grow up the support, clipping it just before it gets to the fiberglass. Run the antenna coax back to your trailer in a discreet manner. Paint the antenna brown or dark green so it isn't immediately noticeable. No garden? Buy one of those oversized plastic flower pots and mount it (and your tomato plant) in there. You're on the air!

Do you have any nearby trees on your lot ? Antennas can be disguised very easily in a tree, and just bury the cable and run it up beneath the skirting.

Why not disguise an antenna as a vent pipe on the roof of the mobile home? Use a mag mount or random piect of thick sheet metal with NMO mount then stick a piece of grey PVC pipe over it. You only need about 6" of pipe to hide a UHF 1/4 wave whip or a little over a foot for a 1/2 wave or 5/8 wave. Here is an idea for a surface mount NMO that you could add some PVC pipe to. Stick a used Laird B4303 on that and you should be in business.

Since that roof is (probably) aluminum, you'll need some sort ferrous metal on the underside of the roof to hold it on. One brand of CB mag mount comes with a large washer for that purpose.

If the roof isn't some sort of metal, you can still use a mag mount, but you'll have to make a small ground plane for it with aluminum tape or such. Hide the antenna in PVC like @prcguy mentioned, camouflage the co-ax, and no one will ever notice. That will be your most cost-effective stealth antenna with usable performance.

FYI. J-Poles have nulls. If you use one, keep this in mind when positioning.
