That site says it should have been all ProVoice and ESK by end of 2006. Now mid 2007. If you can still scan, I would not be worried.

I live in Sarasota just south of Manatee and I believe some of the Sheriff are encrypted and it will all go this way when all groups get the right radios.

This is bad news. Why has Manatee County always had a thing against scanners ?

So how did you find out about their plans? How did the website find out ? Was there a radio tech or someone on the inside ?

Manatee has been trying to upgrade to ProVoice for years. Funding is a big issue with the Vol. Fire Depts. Stay tuned...

Okaloosa County is also looking at going with the state system in 2009. I haven't heard any more talk on it. Things might change when Florida counties have the vote on the county tax decrease. Departments are already screaming about all the money they will loose and possible layoffs. Will have to wait and see what happens.

Send letters to the editor. Why does your county feel the need to keep its operations private from the taxpaying lawful citizens, while at the same time reducing radio system performance and spending more taxpayery dollars?

Make a little trouble.

Make a little trouble.

ProVoice increases system performance by having stronger signal coverage over analog EDACS. ProVoice does not make operations "private" anyone can buy a ProVoice M/A-Com radio & listen to any ProVoice system. I sell them all day long. If a system is ESK, then yes you are locked out from programing a radio without the ESK card, but alot of agencies that have ESK will program your radio for a fee if you are a member of Emergency Managment or Media. Keep in mind no Government agency is required to allow live monitoring of a radio system. In Florida they are required to give public access to govt records which includes radio transmitions, but this can be done several ways. Including public websites on active CAD calls, allowing the public to receive a CD copy of any radio call they wish for any length of time, you can even request a transcript of a patrol officers computer dispatch screen. So again, the agencies follow the law when it comes to public discloser, but allowing the public to monitor live radio calls is not one of the requirements for Florida. Sorry to burst your bubble guys.

Around that time today, Manatee and Sarasota County Sheriffs were looking for a murder suspect and they have the capabilities of using a digital talkgroup on the Sarasota County system. Hope this helps.
