Ok... after several hours of playing with photoshop, i've finished the map. I found a pdf (high res) copy of the okc "wards." I figured out that the pdf contained "layers" i guess. So i imported just the images into photoshop along with the text for the street names. Then i outlined each division and colored it in. (50% transparent) xD xD

Here are two version. The problem is that its a very high res image. If i shrink it down, you loose the street names. What i'd suggest you do is put a small thumbnail, like the one below, on the main OKC page. (The thumb below is a 500x351 gif) Then have a link to the main image. The map is natively 2007 x 1407. Its quite large. lol. Here are the maps.

Let me know what you think.

Sweet.

Ok, I have made changes to the RRDB for OKC so that the map is now being displayed.

Is is just me or does the high-res map kinda run downhill to the left?

:)

So who is working up a new OHP map us? It would be nice to do a 50% transparent on it as well so roads can be seen ...

Yeah, i agree. Its nice to have some streets. I took a screenshot of Oklahoma from Mappoint 2004 and then cropped it out. I then overlayed it onto the map above and am slowly cutting the troop names out of the image. That way I can make just the colored outlines transparent and then re-add the troop names. This is a sample: i'm only 1/4 of the way done. I have to do a job tonight, so i'll try to finish it tomorrow. If i had a higher res image of the map, it would be better, but this is fine.

Perhaps it would help reduce the "clutter" on the OHP map if you dropped the word "Troop", and just put the letter in each area. A slug line at the bottom saying "OHP Troops" should make it plain what the letters signify.

Also, any thoughts on how to handle the turnpike troops? Outsiders might not understand what Turner, Cimarron, or Kirkpatrick XXX means (just to mention a few).

Thanks for the tips. I'll do that. I was thinking that myself as well. As for the turnpike troops.... i'm not sure. I'll play around with photoshop some more tomorrow. I'm dead tired.

The Troop maps look awesome! Thanks for your hard work Matt!
I don't know about the turnpike troops either. Maybe a text listing under the OHP listing giving the turnpike names and that they are used for tpike unit identifiers. Somebody have a better idea? :?

Maybe make the turnpikes a little bit bigger and a color that stands out.. and make a legend for each turnpike and their corresponding colors under the panhandle.. just a thought..

Would someone post up here which troops handle what turnpikes and such? I'd be happy to make the change, but I’m unfamiliar with the turnpikes. Thanks!
