Well you already said the attic is a option, so is there any other places that you could put it? Do you have a backyard? If so, maybe you could upload a picture to show it and we could see if there's a spot you could use?

My antennas are on fence poles in the backyard.

We have a huge bafk yard, fenced in but the rear of fence is a good 40 yards from the back of the house. I had thought of a tree install but i really dont have many that are perfect for it. I can get pictures later on today to post here!

If your parents will let you mount it outside might try the top rail fence poles or check with local metal shop. I called my local metal shop up and they had pipe from half inch all way up 8" and would cut to length. I went with 25 foot 1 inch pipe capped both end then bury one end 4 foot in ground and attached it to the house eve with TV antenna mount. Worked great only wished got 30 foot piece to get antenna little higher over roof peak, but this temp install until get shop built then i'll look into tower or power line pole.

Got enough feed line to reach that tall tree in the yard, then enough to get up that tree? Won't be the best in the world but throwing a cord over that tree and pulling the antenna up in/through the tree is a solution too.

Not a bad idea engineer, i do already have about a 25' top fence post though. And Lt, i thought the exact thing but how to get to the top is the question haha

This tree has a lot of branches haha, if we are referring to the one near the far back. And wouldnt i have to climb the tree to secure it?

Some fishing line with a lead fishing weight depending on how high it is? Or you might have to buy the neighborhood pitcher a soda-pop:)

I apologize for the size of the pictures btw. I did not realize how large they were til i signed on with my computer. But yes, the branches are quite everywhere and it wouldnt be to easy to climb as im not one that goes around climbing trees anymore haha, but it would be an awesome tree to use or the oak we have in the front yard.

You could also get a nice sized and thick enough piece of plywood and bolt a roof tripod to it, and you could put your antenna and small sized pole on that. But the pole should not be over 10 feet and you would have to get a tripod that could handle a 10 foot pole. The setup could be held down by concrete blocks and/or sandbags.

Well the more i think about this, the more i think it would almost be easier to have on in a tree, if i can just find one to climb up high enough into and a way to secure it. I really am not sure if a discone if a good option for a tree though....

I wouldn't do the tree-at those higher frequencies any tree movement could mess up signals. If you do the tree though, make sure there's enough coax lead for tree movement.

Well maybe ill just get the rs antenna and try the attic or get the comet and do it with that. I just want better signal, i can hear everything i really want to besides air and it would almost need a yagi or something. But, i just want my current signals to stay consistent. No more random static...

Ok guys, here is something that has yet to cross my mind til i started to look up airband antennas. What if I were to put the rs vhf/uhf antenna in a tree? That would be just for air band to maybe 440 for skywarn if it came in nicely. Think it would work nicely or not too well? For 800, i could get another antenna and stick it in the attic, as it doesnt need to have too much of a better signal. Its pretty strong as it is.

Heres the antenna im referring too: Outdoor VHF-Hi/UHF Scanner Antenna : Scanner Antennas | RadioShack.com

How come people are saying to put a antenna in a tree? Don't antennas need a metal to metal contact/ground plane? Anyway I would either do the attic install, or my plywood/tripod install, or maybe concrete a pole in ground (concrete would be in a home depot style bucket, those orange ones).

I think people suggest it because it can still be used as a mast if need be. But i will probably have to ask my parents what they would allow and go from there. I would like an outside antenna but i highly doubt they want people to drive by and see a discone or multiple antennas on the house haha

The joys of living with parents.lol If your room is close to roof peak what I did when still at home went out and bought NMO mounts and needed antenna for the bands that wanted to cover. Only had to cover VHF (Rail,Fire,EMS) and 800 (PD) then took about 12" x 24" piece of metal cut two holes for the NMO mounts then attached three L braces and screwed it into eve at rook peak. Then painted everything same as house trim to blended it in with house. Ran the coax in through gable vent fished cable in wall with TV coax brought it out same plug box.. Dad was happy and I was even happier with great signal.

On tree mount. Take large nut tie or heavy fishing weight with eyelet tie fishing line to it then use a sling shot once you get it were you want it tie fishing line off to rope or antenna line pull it on up. Put up many a rope swings at the lake and river this way.
