• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is not a trivial task, and not one that can be done "step by step" on a forum.

Step 1: Sign up for a Motorola Solutions Learning Portal Account: Motorola Solutions

Step 2: Search for MCD5000, a number of options will come up. The manual you want, however, is
MCD 5000 Deskset System Without OMC Installation and Configuration Guide #6802987C97-S

You'll need to find the MCD5000 Configuration Tool software to program these units. It uses a standard straight through Ethernet cable.

should i use APX Family R28.
No. You need a specific piece of software called "MCD5000 Configuration Tool". No other software will program a MCD5000. Please find and read the manual I posted about, all the information you need to properly program a MCD5000 is in there.

APX CPS is ONLY for APX consolette, portable and mobile radios. It will not program any other Motorola products.

You will also need to access the controller board inside the consolette and program it to recognize the MCD Deskset.

Where did they move it to? I have a license for it, but can't find it. I thought it was on my old MOL account. I don't see it in myview / customer hub tab for entitlements?

I should have added that you access the controller via your web browser, not APX CPS.

And Techsonic, which I found interesting.
That's because the newer Technisonic (TDFM-9000/9200/9300/9100) aircraft radios are actually APX portables in a chassis. The programming cable is a USB APX portable cable with the Technisonic jack connected at the end. Somehow they convinced ($$$) Motorola to allow them access to the software/firmware of the portables to put the display and control functions into their user interface.

The older TDFM-600/6000/7000/7300 series are ASTRO25 XTS portable based units, and use ASTRO25 Portable CPS.
